Wish Tree Charity Auction - 17th May 2008 and Raffle 22nd May 2008

The Wish Tree is a charity founded by 3 mothers within the village. Its aim is to offer support to families with dependents facing serious illness within the small community of Flamstead.

Why are we setting up this charity?
We personally know families within the community affected by serious illness and have suffered with them through their brave battles. Watching our friends and their families suffer has left us feeling utterly helpless at times and so we have decided to do something about it and set up 'The Wish Tree Charity'.

Flamstead is a relatively small village with a very strong sense of community. Recently, it seems that it has had more than its fair share of families suffering serious illness. Many of us within the village have wondered how we can help? We believe that the greatest assistance we can offer families in this situation is to help the family unit to continue to operate as normally as possible. Each case by its very own nature is likely to be different; our aim is to provide a service of care when needed. The funds raised will help to pay for competent childcare whilst a parent or sibling has treatment; domestic help and transport during times of difficulty.

How will we raise funds?

Each year we will organise and host an annual fund raising event in order to raise the necessary funds. The charity trustees will be responsible for allocating the funds raised to families meeting the charity's criteria. The first event will be 'The Secret Garden Ball' to be held on 17th May 2008.

Who are the trustees?
  • Liz Jebb: Secretary of Flamstead Village Hall, Civil Servant, 2 children.
  • Elaine Soanes: Previously Flamstead Pre-school Chair, 15 yrs working for Unilever, 3 children.
  • Liz Atkinson: Chair of the PTA at Flamstead School; 15 yrs working in HR, 2 children.
  • Roy Lambden: Village resident for 15 yrs and 30 years working in the financial sector.
How does it Work?

The Auction will take place at The Secret Garden Ball on Saturday 17th May 2008 from 8pm at Flamstead Village School.

The catalogue of auction items can be viewed as follows: Bids can be placed on-line using the bid form associated with each auction item. Any bids placed this way will be acknowledged by return email. Without this acknowledgment the bid is not valid and its inclusion in the bidding process on the night of the auction cannot be queried after the auction has closed. I (Liz Atkinson) will bid on your behalf at the auction and bids placed on-line will be bid up to the maximum value stated in the bid email or to the minimum value required to secure the item on the night of the aution. The maximum value of on-line bids will not be declared at the auction and in the case of duplicate maximum value on-line bids, the earlier bid takes precedence over later on-line and live bids. Higher value on-line bids take precedence over lower value on-line or live bids. The timing of an on-line bid will be based upon server time which will be recorded when the on-line bid is placed.

On-line bids can be submitted up to noon on Thursday 15th May. On-line bids after this time will not be included in the auction.

The website will open for on-line bids shortly.

The current server time is Monday 08-Sep-2008:04-52-04

Alternatively come to the auction on Saturday 17th May 2008 from 8pm at Flamstead Village School and enjoy the thrill of a live auction.

If your on-line bid exceeds the highest bid price on the night of the auction then you will win the auction item.

We hope that you find it in your hearts to support this very deserving cause. If you would like to support the ball through the provision of sponsorship, goods or raffle/auction prizes, please contact one of the trustees.
